A little less than two months in progress (though most definitely less than that in actual work time), hybrid-girl is my biggest project so far, and I've got to say, it's also one of my best to date.
Hybrid-girl (so called for lack of an actual name) is a fantasy species design, a human-creature hybrid; the body of a human girl, with catlike legs and feet, a pair of bushy tails, curved horns, and long pointed ears. Inspired by a few other artists' original character creations, though not based on anything in particular; definitely a fun exercise, the combination of skin and fur was quite interesting to paint. Started off as a 3D render (which you can take a look at here), as I usually do; originally, the character was going to be the only item in the scene, but after what was intended to be a green textured background turned into a full-blown landscape (fault of the textured brush I was using, which I noticed was very good for making bush shapes), things went through a few changes to end up as you see now.
Critiques welcome! This project was a learning experience for me, and I don't see why it shouldn't continue to be so after it's finished.
Check out my tumblr for a behind-the-scenes look at this project in progress, and follow me while you're there, why not! I post up work-in-progress shots, tutorials, art resource links, and the occasional artistic-themed blog entry. Perhaps it's to your interest, no?
EDIT: couldn't help myself! Went back real quick and touched-up the shading on her face, as well as giving her eyebrows.
Thanks a bunch! I'm busy figuring out what my next project will be, but I think so far I'm decided that it's going to have much more contrast in the background.
Nice job man, I really like this one, only thing I see was already said, the bg could use a bit more contrast and sharpening up in certain areas, but is not that big of a deal. I really like the direction your art has been taking.
For something that was the last part, the background is gorgeous. It's very reminiscent of a painting propped up against the picture. At the same time, though, that makes the background flat and lacking in depth in a way. Perhaps the plants just need a little more definition to them; for instance, it's hard to tell where the grass ends and where the tree begins on the left side.
That aside, I love the overall scheme of the picture, and the girl herself has a marvelous design.
